Mary (Meisel) O’Neil, of Portsmouth, Ohio, born on September 28,1928, passed away on April 1, 2024. She was born in Portsmouth to the late Benjamin and Caroline (Walter) Meisel. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Paul O’Neil and her sister Dorothy Goldcamp. Mary leaves behind her daughters Nancy Blaha (John) and Carolyn Bryan (Bob), her three grandchildren Greg Blaha, Emily Blaha and Eric Blaha, and four great grandchildren. Mary was a math teacher for many years in the Portsmouth area. She loved to read and loved the Portsmouth Public Library and the helpful staff there. She was a devout member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Portsmouth and her faith was the cornerstone of her life. It brought her tremendous peace in her life journey. Her faith was passed down to several generations of her family including her daughters, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. In her final days, she said more than once that her proudest accomplishment was seeing them value and practice their faith. Many thanks to Mike Trivisonno for guiding us on this journey. Thanks also to Jim Jensen who brought her communion for many years when she was no longer able to make it to church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to go to St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 515 5th Street, Portsmouth, Ohio, 45662, or Malachi House, 2810 Clinton Avenue, Cleveland, Ohio, 44113, a home for terminally ill persons in the final stages of life, one of Mary’s favorite charities. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, April 13, 2024, at 12:00 p.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Father Gideon officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to mass at the Church. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery. Melcher Hammer Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. Well done, good and faithful servant. Welcome home!
